Boston Celtics - Stepping Stone of the NBA

Kyrie Irving dropped 40pts in Cleveland's win against the Celtics. Is anyone keeping count of how many players are improving their records against the Celtics this season?

The 2006 Celtics used the be the big bully in the NBA,  the team everyone is scared of. They carried this momentum until the Perkins trade.

Now, its a reversal of the situation; teams look forward to beating up on the old Celtics. Young players look to establish themselves as superstars when playing the Celtics.

Why? Simply put there is no super star left on the roaster. That one player who can single handedly turn the game around offensively or defensively discouraging the opposing team.

We are getting used to highlights of players crossing over Paul Pierce or facializing Kevin Garnett. How many alley hoops did Andre Drummond dunk over the Celtics? Yet the Celtics had no answer.

While The Truth's shooting ability has gone cold, KG a power forward/center is now a jump shooter. So we are left with Rajon Rondo. He can get people wide open shots all day but what's the point if his team mates can't make shots? Is it fair to say Kyrie outplayed Rondo?

The pressure to win now lies on Rondo, an all round excellent player who makes his team better. With all this pressure, Rondo has a target on his back and point guards put him to the test every game. All the youngsters point guards put up their best performance against Rondo. The question is can a small point guard carry this team on his own?

C'mon, lets go Celtics!

Six Game Winning Streak Comes To An End

After an impressive 6 six game win streak,  Doc River's Boston Celtics symbolically lost to Austin River's New Orleans Hornets.

The Celtics were struggling through the start of the  2012/13 season until they started going back to good old habits of smothering teams with their defence. Jeff Green, Courtney Lee and Jared Sullinger were vital for each of these wins. With the increase in talent in the league, 5 starters are not enough to win a game.

Boosted by the return of starter Avery Bradley the Celts kept teams under 40% field goal percentage. With scores like 94-75 against the Indiana Pacers, 89-81 vs Atlanta Hawks, 102-96 vs the New York Nicks, 87-79 with the Phoenix Suns and 100-89 vs Charlotte Bobcats, the Celtics re-established themselves for any doubters in the Eastern conference as a defensive team and playoff contender.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the team did a favour to the Coach and his son, but the timing was perfect for the team to relax ahead of some tough games next week. Paul Pierce had another miserable night making 5 of 15 shots. May "The Truth" get better.

LETS GO CELTICS !!!

Stanley Cup - 2012 NHL Playoffs Predictions

The playoffs are here in full effect. Its that time of the year when hockey players forget how to shave.
With round 1 almost over, we're starting to see which team wants to win the Stanley Cup more than others.
My original pick for round 4 series was  the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vancouver Canucks. The best player in the league (Evgeni Malkin) and the best to ever play the game (Sidney Crosby) versus the infamous Swedish twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin. We all know how these teams perfomed in the 1st round so...

Eastern Conference Winner:

In this year's playoffs, goal tending has been crucial to wining games. Tim Thomas is getting old but he's still got and the Boston Bruins have a good backup goalie. Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Ranger played well in the regular season but doesn't have  a solid track record in the playoffs. Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils is just too old to cary a team to the Stanley Cup Finals. For teams such as the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers goal tending can be questionable and the team will have to outscore their oponents to make it out of the east.

My pick for the Eastern Conference: 2011 Stanley Cup winners, The Boston Bruins.

Western Conference Winner:

This conference had a wild regular season finish but the action didn't stop there. The last minute qualified playoff  teams from the Pacific division are still making a push. With Jonathan Quick in the net for the Los Angeles Kings how could they go wrong? St Louis Bues have it good with two solid goal tenders, one is injured and their scoring consistency is questionable. Nashville Predators' Pekka Rinne is looking sharp as always, and the team has been re-inforced with the Russian net finder Alexander Radulov. Mike Smith is holding up Phoenix Coyotes, but Chicago Black Hawks and San Jose Sharks seem to have questionable net protection.

My pick for the Western Conference: Carrie Underwood would like this, The Nashville Predators.
Now let's see what happens in real life!

National Basketball League Lockout

Sooooo, No NBA season this year. Players should form their league. Owners should use D-league players. Basically this is a battle of greed. Lebron James will miss a costly year. Kobe Bryant will be too old to play. More exhibition games are needed. Blake Griffin will be cold. I miss the NBA. Ouch.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals

After watching the 2011 NBA regular season, it is time for the bold and bodacious to make predictions. That's right, it's is playoff prediction time and my call for the Eastern conference Finals; yes you guessed it right, the top two teams will be going head to head for a conference title.

The Return of the Boston Celtics:
Of course I would like to touch on the green team. After an excrutiating defeat in Game 7 of the NBA Finals vs their arch-rivals (a team who's name I dare not write on this blog) the Cs are trying to retain their lead as all time NBA title holders. KG the bully, Rondo the quaterback, Ray Ray the Snipper The Truth and the Grand Pa Shaq have a proven playoff track record and have been to the last 2 of 3 conference finals (which they did win) when they were healthy. So they are 'Healthy' and very old but healthy and can make it to the Conference Finals "if" they remain healthy throught the post season. They will definitely have many obstacles which brings me to the other contender.

The Raging Chicago Bulls:
Derick Rose. Is there more to say? Derick Rose! Ok I guess the Bulls are stacked, but I can't help trying to imagine what they would have been like had LeBron James joined their squad. Luol Deng is on FAIYA this season (Sudanese converted to French player) and the heart of the team Noah (with Cameroonian roots, I just thought I'd throw that out there) made it through some injuries, the new addition Boozer the paint dominator. The Bulls have dept and I would be stupid to leave out the most important piece: Tom Thibodeau was the assistant defenssive coach with Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics last year.

Each of these teams may face some tough competition from Florida. The Orlando Magic are proven playoff contenders and they look even better this season with Dwight Howrad still putting up sickening numbers and crushing the rim. The Turkish prince returned from Phoenix with some 3-point shooting talents partners that spread the court. Expect the unexpected from the Miami heat. Lebron James, Dwane Wade and Chris Bosh is all I need to mention because they account for 75% of Miami's points and get no help from their bench. Make your calls and lets enjoy the show.

BP Oil spill coming to Halifax

Pretty crazy scenario, but imagine for a second that ocean currents bring the mess to Atlantic Canada??? Could this have an impact on fishing? Probably not but there will surely be more oil coming to the maritimes...

NHL: Its Elimination Thursday

Flyers at Devils

Today is the first day of elimination games for the 2010 NHL playoffs and the Philadelphia Flyers have a chance to knock off the always playoffs present New Jersey Devils. The Flyers have had the Devils number this year winning 8 of 10 games. Devils are a solid team and should respond tonight with a win against a Carter and Gagne -less team.

Predictions:

Devils -160

T:5.0 Under

Senators at Penguins

Ottawa hasn't had a hard time producing goals this series but haven't had help in net. Crosby is on a tear with 11 points in 4 games. Expect Ottawa to try and contain Crosby tonight but watch out for the rest out the Pens. Ottawa will be booking tee times tomorrow morning.

Predictions:

Pens -270

T:5.5 Over

Blackhawks at Predators

Nashville can seize the opportunity tonight. A hungry Nashville team can take a massive 3-1 lead on a young and incredibly talented Chicago team. With Pekka Rinne letting in only 4 goals in 3 game look for him to continue his torrid pace tonight in Music City, USA.

Predictions:

Nashville +141

T:5.0 Over

Avalanche at Sharks

One of the most entertaining series this far. Tonight will not disappoint. With the San Jose having momentum its hard not to think they will pull it off tonight. Craig Anderson is going to do his best to stop a playoff miserable Sharks team from taking a 3-2 series lead.

Predictions:

San Jose -230

T: 5.5 Under
